“Nanoworlds: An Innovative Undergraduate Curriculum Using a Scalable Web-Based Encyclopedia of Nanotechnology,” (NSF #0407208) commenced in 2004 to develop a course-plus-learning management system which we called “Nanoworlds.” In this course, the students analyzed specific nano-related concepts and studied emerging technologies and their challenges for practical implementation. In addition, our students gained experience in critical thinking about the social, economic and ethical considerations surrounding nanotechnology. Moreover, in the second year of our program, the students also created teaching modules for a high school audience on various nano related topics. Supplemental NSF Research Experience for Teachers (RET) funding enabled the involvement of three high school teachers to help with the teaching module development for high school students.
NANOPEDIA provides overviews, a balanced analysis of the latest news in nanotechnology and course resources as well as an underlying comprehensive, searchable encyclopedia of nanotechnology. To learn more about NANOPEDIA, please visit http://nanopedia.case.edu
